“Harvestree”, part of an ongoing series of quick 30 min sketches with tight deadlines, and specific constraints. The main theme we wanted to portray was a sense of optimistic melancholy, and with the moving images, really get the viewer to feel that sense of calm, and unrest that the fireflies bring about in their incessant flitting about the water.

Created within a small set of constraints: Use 3 types of trees, use water, and exaggerate anything in the scene, and make everything move. The final image is actually a live camera view of the swamp, with little fireflies floating around everywhere, the water slowly undulating, and the tree obscuring the sun behind it in such a way that you can feel the leaves move while the sun’s rays break through and cast long, soft light rays.
